Having a contoured abdomen, hips, and back are the attractive features many people desire. While liposuction can sculpt a better shape to these areas, sometimes it results in the uneven surface caused by post-liposuction fibrosis. 

This can happen because pain, swelling and scar tissue/fibrosis always follow any intrusive invasive procedure, including lipo and related surgery.

The liposuction adverse effects typically include:

• Loose skin

• Excessive skin hardening

• Scar tissue (fibrotic) lumps

• Seroma or liquid collection

• Lumps of fat left unremoved

• Skin adhesion onto the underlying tissue, which leads to movement restriction

• Cellulite looks worse: this is because cellulite is not removed by liposuction, and cellulite surgery is quite often the wrong decision.

The recommended treatments differ depending on the timeline after surgery.

• Weeks 1-3:  In the first few days after lipo the emphasis is on reducing pain and swelling, which also help prevent further complications, such as fibrosis, later.

• Weeks 4-8: In the medium term, the emphasis is on preventing fibrosis and gradually breaking down any fibrosis scar tissue that will unavoidably build up.

• After about 8 weeks, you may start working on the skin looseness, which will unavoidably be there, and the cellulite, which can never be removed by liposuction – and not even with cellulite surgery (not the large majority of cellulite bumps, anyway).
