What You Should Know Before Your First Appointment

Jeuveau® is a neuromodulator injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines. It interrupts the message sent by nerves to muscles, causing them to relax.
The more units you have, the less movement your facial muscles can make. That means your skin may stay wrinkle-free longer. Jeuveau® can prevent early wrinkles and treat existing ones. Prior to your injection, we do a full-face consultation. During this consultation we ask you to smile, frown and raise your eyebrows so that we can ensure that the final result is natural-looking.
Our cosmetic injections start to work in 3 to 5 days with outstanding results at two weeks and last for 3-4 months.
The most common side effect of this treatment is bruising. We avoid going near large blood vessels, but everyone’s anatomy is different, and it is possible to hit a small one. If this happens, the bruising should go away within a week.
At @valeriyalife.spa, our cosmetic injections are $13/unit. The amount of units we recommend depends on how many areas you want treated, your current skin condition, and what your goals are for the treatment. We offer $40 off every 90 days for Jeuveau® when you purchase 20 or more units.

Jeuveau® Aftercare Instructions

Make the most of your treatment with these aftercare instructions.

Sit Up: Jeuveau® injections are administered into the superficial muscle of one or more areas. For the drug to work as efficiently as possible, it must be given time to fully absorb. Lying down too soon could create a risk of the toxin migrating away from its target area. Lying down also increases the risk of bruising. Play it safe and stay upright for at least 4 hours after your treatment.

Wait 24 Hours To Exercise: If you exercise every day as a part of your general wellness routine, we suggest doing so before your appointment and then waiting 24 hours for your next workout session. Depending on the type of exercise you tend to do, your provider may suggest holding off for a few days. Walking tends to be fine, so long as you don’t increase your heart rate too much. Doing so increases the risk of bruising. After your injection, it can be beneficial to smile, frown, and raise your eyebrows to help the product integrate into the muscle better.

Pass On The Cocktails: Alcoholic beverages increase the risk of bruising and should be avoided 24 hours before and 24 hours after injectable treatments.

Give Your Face A Break: To prevent spreading the toxin, it is recommended to avoid touching your face for about three days. You can wash your face but do so gently, without pressing. Avoid exfoliating scrubs, facial massages, and facials. Also try to avoid any other activities that will put pressure on your face like bending over or wearing tight-fitting hats or headbands.

Frequently asked questions about botulinum injection

How do cosmetic injections work?

Jeuveau® targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines — the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling and raising the eyebrows over the years. Your aesthetic injector will inject these muscles with the neurotoxin to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will notice your frown lines, your crow’s feet lines and your forehead lines temporarily look better.

What is the most important information I should know about JEUVEAU®?

JEUVEAU may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of JEUVEAU:
Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.
Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing.
Do not use JEUVEAU if you: are allergic to any of the ingredients in JEUVEAU (see Medication Guide for ingredients); had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as rimabotulinumtoxinB (MYOBLOC®), onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®/BOTOX® Cosmetic), abobotulinumtoxinA (DYSPORT®), or incobotulinumtoxinA (XEOMIN®); have a skin infection at the planned injection site; or are a child.

JEUVEAU dosing units are not the same as, or comparable to, any other botulinum.

Tell your healthcare provider about all your muscle or nerve conditions, such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, Myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, as you may be at increased risk of serious side effects including difficulty swallowing and difficulty breathing from typical doses of JEUVEAU.

Tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions, including: any side effects from botulinum toxin products, including dry eye; breathing, swallowing, bleeding, or heart problems; plans to have surgery; weakness of forehead muscles; drooping eyelids; have had surgery on your face; are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed (it is not known if JEUVEAU can harm your unborn baby or passes into breast milk).

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Using JEUVEAU with certain other medicines may cause serious side effects. Do not start any new medicines until you have told your healthcare provider that you have received JEUVEAU in the past.

Especially tell your healthcare provider if you: have received any other botulinum toxin product in the past and the last 4 months, and exactly which product you received (such as BOTOX, BOTOX Cosmetic, MYOBLOC, DYSPORT, or XEOMIN).

JEUVEAU may cause loss of strength or general muscle weakness, vision problems, or dizziness within hours to weeks of treatment with JEUVEAU. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.

JEUVEAU can cause other serious side effects including: allergic reactions such as itching, rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, trouble breathing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your healthcare provider or get emergency medical help right away if you develop wheezing or trouble breathing, or if you feel dizzy or faint. Heart problems. Irregular heartbeat and heart attack that have caused death, have happened in some people who received botulinum toxin products. Eye problems such as dry eye, reduced blinking, and corneal problems. Do I need to be over 40 to start using neurotoxins?

It’s not your age that determines when this treatment is right for you, it’s the severity of your lines and wrinkles. In fact, 64% of plastic surgeons report seeing a rise in cosmetic surgery or injectable treatments for patients in their early 30’s.

The truth is, everyone’s lines form differently. The timing can be influenced by a combination of factors, from cellular changes that may occur over time, to reduction of collagen, to genetic factors, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.

If your lines and wrinkles start being visible to the point where its bothering you, go speak with your doctor. They can help you determine if such treatment is right for you.

How much time does a cosmetic injection take? Will it hurt?

Our aesthetic injectors will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. If you are deemed to be an appropriate candidate, the injection may take place on that same day. Some patients report that being injected with a neurotoxin feels like a pinch. Your injector may use ice to numb the treatment area. Or, if you are concerned about discomfort, our specialist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment. Treatment requires minimal downtime. So you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave our office.

Will I see results quickly? How long does this cosmetic injection last?

You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with full results in 30 days, lasting up to 3-4 months for moderate to severe frown lines. Remember that results vary from patient to patient, so your aesthetic injector will plan your next appointment based on your results and aesthetic goals. Start talking about your goals with our specialist today and find out what you could expect.

How long is the recovery time after treatment?

Refer to our Jeuveau® Aftercare Instructions section for this question.

How many injections will I receive?

Treatment with Jeuveau® is customized to your needs and goals. When you meet with our specialist, they will determine the appropriate treatment for any areas you wish to address, including moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines.

For the crow’s feet area, our injector will treat three areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the muscle that frames the other eye.

For the frown lines area, we will administer five injections into the muscles between your brows and in your forehead.

For the forehead lines area, our specialist will administer five injections into a muscle in your forehead.

What are common side effects are seen in clinical studies?

Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of neurotoxin injections. Please see the Important Safety Information including Boxed Warning and Medication Guide and talk to your specialist.

What's it like before & after the treatment?

If it’s your first time getting a neurotoxin injection treatment, you may be a little nervous and that’s okay! Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, erythema, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

For specific instructions on what to do before and after your treatment, please follow the instructions as given to you by your doctor or healthcare provider.
